Iowa Smoke School Schedule

Below is a list of our public smoke schools Aeromet offers in Iowa. You may register for any public smoke school that is listed.

Our smoke school program has undergone a Federal audit and your certification will be valid in Iowa. You will be certified to conduct EPA Method 9 Observations after successful completion of any of our Iowa smoke schools. We return to each public Iowa smoke school location every 6 months to ensure your certification does not expire.  

PLEASE NOTE:  IDNR requires all Iowa smoke school attendees to observe 500 opacity readings before you are certified to conduct valid Method 9 observations in Iowa.  This is a one-time only requirement.  Aeromet will offer the 500 readings at the Des Moines smoke school each season for any new attendees.  There is no additional charge for this service.  Please call if you have any questions about this Iowa-specific requirement.

If you are a first-time smoke school attendee, we strongly recommend reviewing our visible emission observation lecture CD before the public smoke school. Information about our lecture CD can be found here. Additionally, it is recommended that you attend our First Time Opacity Observer Orientation which starts at 7:30 A.M. on the day of the public smoke school.
